In the lower and even middle ranges our property market, demand may well still be outstripping supply. The steady economic growth of 5% annually (ex-agriculture) is adding formal jobs, probably at a rate of some 300 000 annually.

Buy to let or fret - Personal Finance - January 2007
I find it amazing how ignorant people are when it comes to this game. It's actually not just people but highly rated people in the industry.
I mean we've had a boom and it doesn't seem as though the difference between investors and speculators is even understood here.
The other fundamental is the tax issue which accounts for between 30 and 40 per cent of many incomes. In this comical article it is expressed how property can really be a cash drainer and then tax is added to the expenses. Last time I checked taxes are paid on profits.
Anyway, a few fundamental errors help keep the masses out of this lovely game. Interesting from an organization that from an affordability point of view, encourages you to spend the same cash flow on your car and house. Wealth Creation 101 !!!!
Regards
Wayne

Be streetwise before buying to let - September 2006
Interesting read - amazing how many people still think you have to put deposits down. See his comment 'fortunate buyers able to pay cash'. We know that using the banks money you can get 10 houses with R500k cash, rather than just one.
I do like what he says at the end in terms of having reserves for maintenance and tenant issues. The rewards are great, but you will have to take some knocks along the way…

House Prices Expected to drop in real terms - August 2006
Some people still don't apply rental and gearing to their real growth calculations.
I find it amazing how after the last six years of publicity most people still wish to ignore fundamental mathematics.
As Ian Fife says in the latest Property Professional it seems as thought the money is about to move from the "innocent to the smart".
I can't believe how the market is giving us another chance…
